Quebecers create an application to protect victims of violence – TVA Nouvelles

December 8, 2025 by istri

A Quebec company is launching a new application to protect people who feel at risk of violence or harm.

The images captured by your phone’s camera when you open the application are sent directly to a control center and this alerts the authorities.

“The images are sent to our headquarters, which knows your personal situation, so we know what the problem is,” mentions Gino Desautels, co-owner of the Robine application, during his visit to LCN.

This application is intended to help those who are victims of domestic violence, abuse, sexual misconduct, false accusations, homophobia, racism and intimidation.

In addition, the application saved the life of Christine Giroux, a victim of domestic violence.

“I was one of the first to take part in the pilot project. This app changed my life because I stopped going out. “I can say that my cell phone is like a little soldier, a guardian angel,” emphasizes the domestic violence survivor and author of the book “My Voice Found.”

One of the advantages of the application is that it can provide information to the authorities in certain situations.

“If the victim is unable to call the police, dispatch does this for them and forwards the captured images directly to the nearest patrol car. We can send the images to the police station or directly to an officer’s cell phone,” explains the co-founder.

“In addition, there is a geolocation option in the application. When you press the button, the control unit knows exactly where you are, the exact address, but also which balcony you are on,” says the survivor.
