A frozen meal of baked chicken seems harmless enough. Especially Stouffer’s version, which consists of a boneless chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy. A simple, no-frills meal couldn’t miss the mark too much…right? We regret to report that it is indeed possible to mess up a frozen baked chicken meal. So if you’ve ever been seduced by the basic nature of Stouffer’s offering, we advise you to avoid it.
Although our initial reaction may seem a bit harsh, it’s important to remember how difficult it is to mess up chicken. Many of Stouffer’s frozen entrees contain chicken, but the key is that they contain diced or shredded chicken, which tastes much better in frozen form. This baked chicken breast took longer than expected to fully defrost in the microwave, and once it was finally warmed up, it was almost impossible to bite through. Combine almost a tooth and the fact that this chicken contains no seasoning whatsoever, and you have a recipe for a pretty disappointing meal.
The only saving grace for this frozen dish is the sauce, although it doesn’t add much flavor. The mashed potatoes are grainy and bland, the chicken is almost inedible – this baked chicken dish just isn’t worth the price of admission.
