Case, ports, screen of the Asus Vivobook 14 S1405VA-LY245W
This versatile notebook is certified to the American military resistance standard MIL-STD-810G and looks elegant and discreet with its thin and light, compact Cool Silver design.
This ultrabook offers the right connectivity with its USB-C, its practical HDMI video output for easy connection to a monitor or TV, for example, its Wi-Fi 5 ac and Bluetooth 4.1 wireless modules for connections and communication, its audio port or its 3 USB ports, including 2 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible), guarantee up to 10 times faster transfers than USB 2.0 when you connect USB 3.0 devices.
It’s a shame, however, that the connectivity is inferior to the newer, more efficient Wi-Fi 6 ax and Bluetooth 5 standards from the start.
Many people will definitely appreciate that the chiclet keyboard’s keys can be backlit to make them easier to distinguish in limited ambient light.
Since NumPad technology (NumberPad) is also present, it can be activated to make entering numbers easier. Because it turns the touchpad into a tactile number pad.
The screen is characterized by its 16/10 format, which displays more information in height than the standard 16/9 format.
The screen is definitely suitable for high-definition content due to its Full HD resolution, while its IPS technology ensures significant viewing angles both horizontally and vertically.
Since it has an anti-reflective coating, the screen is easier to read even in bright environments (e.g. outdoors) than a glossy panel.
Performance, battery life of the Asus Vivobook 14 S1405VA-LY245W
The Asus Vivobook 14 S1405VA-LY245W is a compact laptop for everyday multi-purpose use.
It will delight those who need a large storage capacity as it comes with a 1TB SSD, enough to install and store multiple software and files.
As a bonus, an SSD offers many advantages over a hard drive: greater shock resistance, lower energy consumption, silent operation or even more speed.
The SSD guarantees much better fluidity and responsiveness in everyday life than a hard drive.
For example, thanks to the SSD, starts/stops such as software processing and boots are faster and we can access online playing cards faster.
However, there is no dedicated graphics card on board. Here all graphics are handled by the Iris Xe solution integrated into the processor, which is enough to view photos and videos or even play modest games.
The Iris Xe is integrated into the Core i7-1355U, a low-consumption Raptor Lake processor with 10 hybrid cores. The Core i7 has 16 GB of RAM available to offer very good performance in everyday life. But also for light multimedia processing with multicores and RAM, such as photo editing or video conversion.
However, keep in mind that for frequent work that requires graphics and/or processor resources, it is better to turn to a PC that has a suitable dedicated graphics card and/or a non-low consumption processor.
As for autonomy, you can count on a battery life of around 6 hours with light use of this ultrabook, easy to transport thanks to its lightness, finesse and compactness. It might be suitable for some people who want to buy a student laptop.
