To mark the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, an enthusiast has created an animated film with a Ghibli touch. The result is breathtaking.
1998 was still a great year. Zizou’s brace in the World Cup final against Brazil. Half Life on PC. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo 64… So many events that will stay with you forever. If Valve didn’t forget Half-Life’s anniversary with a big update, Nintendo didn’t do anything special for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Fortunately, there are always lovers who pay tribute to unforgettable works. So RwanLink created a small Zelda film inspired by the Ghibli touch.
His short film, released on YouTube on November 22nd, is still almost 20 minutes long. There is a real magic that comes from the images, which thus mix The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link’s first 3D adventure and one of the most popular – and the Ghibli legacy. It’s truly amazing and adds another piece to the regret machine: with a more powerful Nintendo console we could play such a beautiful Zelda game. RwanLink even offers “gameplay stages” in his film to show what a video game could look like with these great graphics.

Zelda with Ghibli sauce? A marriage that works
“As an avid fan of Studio Ghibli films, I was inspired by their aesthetic and seamlessly integrated them into the world of Zelda Ocarina of Time to pay homage to the game’s 25th anniversary,” reveals RwanLink. He used the graphics engine Unreal Engine 5 to create his film, a project that spanned four months (alongside his full-time job). His ambitious creation is a huge success: his film has already been viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube. He was happy about it a tweet posted on November 22nd.
He even had a few words for Nintendo: “I would also like to thank Nintendo from the bottom of my heart for creating the Zelda saga.” For years, it has inspired millions of fans, myself included, with its rich stories, captivating characters and unforgettable adventures. The magic of Zelda has touched our hearts and I am honored to be part of this community that values this extraordinary legacy. »
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Ghibli style // Source: YouTube CaptureIn any case, we could very well imagine a collaboration between Nintendo and Studio Ghibli in the future, as the animation studio’s touch fits Hyrule perfectly. In addition, there is a video game saga in which Studio Ghibli was involved: the Ni no Kuni RPGs. The world of video games is therefore not completely foreign to the Japanese company, whose filmography enjoys a worldwide reputation. With each major Zelda work, Nintendo chooses a new artistic direction, which can range from cartoonish (The Wind Waker) to something much darker (Twilight Princess). The multinational is not the type to delegate, but you never know. After all, he entrusted the production of the Super Mario film to Illumination Entertainment and the result is worth the detour – at least visually.
We remind you that Nintendo recently formalized the launch of a film adapted from the Zelda universe. But while we were expecting a feature-length animated film, it will bring real actors together on screen. We currently have no information about the cast, but it should live up to expectations.
